WILLAPA
« on: June 12, 2012, 10:20:20 AM »
It seems that all the work the WWA and other groups have done to save the dikes at the willapa wildlife  (PORTER PT AND THE LEWIS UNIT ) the FEDS made there minds up about 3yrs ago and they are not changing there minds the dikes are coming down.

Didn't they take down the levees just west of South Bend a few years back to return the area to wetland?

They can still be stopped if the ACOE doesn't issue permits or Congress prohibits them from spending money on this project. Contact Congresswowan Jamie Hererra-Beutler! I'm not quiting yet.

The WWA had a meeting last month with the USFW at Willapa, the feds said that they dont have all the money to  start there 15yr program but they have the equipment on hand to take down the dikes.. The WWA tried to talk them in to waiting until they get there money for there project before taking the dikes down.  No matter what the WWA came up with to keep the dikes up the feds said a big NO  NO   Congresswoman Jamie Hererra-Beutler did a great job for us but Congress only kept the USFW from doing  any thing  until after April 2012.  Now getting to Potter slough south of south Bend on 101 if you look toward the willapa river it looks like the Nisqually flats a mud hole no ducks if you look left of the highway it all fresh water with green vegetation and ducks. Before they took the dikes down there was lots of waterfowl and elk  using that area that is now a mud hole.  If the feds take down the Dikes at Willapa (PorterPt and the Lewis unit) it will become another Nisqually flats,  I am with you Blackdog I have not giving up on the fightI have all my friends E-Mailing any body that will listen and I hope people on this forum will do the same.  thanks Joe

LoL you guys are something else. I probably spend more time hunting that mudhole in a year then you two have combined ever. Its helped if you watch the tides. the green side with ponds? if you like coot its great. mallards, widgeon, teal, and hell even elk all over that "mudhole" you really think a duck cares if its fresh or brackish water? this fight isnt worth the attention its being given.
